He is the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia, a writer, a member of the Union of Writers and the Union of Journalists of Abkhazia, a poet, and a translator.
He was born on 27 September 1953 in the village of Tamysh, Ochamchira district, Abkhazian ASSR.
He graduated from D.I. Gulia High School.
In 1971-1975 he studied at the Philological Faculty of the Gorky State Pedagogical Institute in Sukhumi.
Afterwards, he worked as a teacher at Tamysh secondary school.
In 1976-1978, he worked as a correspondent for the national newspaper «Apsny Kapsh» («Red Abkhazia»).
He was a correspondent for «Abkhaz Radio» in 1978-1979.
In 1979-1994, he was editor, editor-in-chief and later chairman of the Abkhaz State TV and Radio Company.
In 1990-1991 he was the secretary of the Union of Writers of the Abkhaz ASSR.
In 1992-1997, he served as a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia.
In 1994, he was part of the World Writers' Cruise to the Black, Aegean and Mediterranean Seas on the Greek ship «Renaissance».
In 1997-1999, he was Chairman of the Cultural Foundation of the Republic of Abkhazia.
In 1999-2001, he served as Minister of Culture of the Republic of Abkhazia.
In 2000, he was the head of the Abkhaz delegation at the IV International Theatre Festival in Plovdiv (Bulgaria).
In 2001-2004 he was Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia.
In 2006, he defended his PhD thesis «Ways of Development of Abkhazian Lyrics (Traditions and Modern State)».
In 2012, he defended his doctoral thesis «Abkhaz lyrics and national artistic and philosophical worldview».
Since 2014, he has been a senior researcher at the D. I. Gulia Abkhaz Institute for Humanitarian Research.
He has also been an advisor to the President of the Republic of Abkhazia since 2014.
