BASARIA VLADIMIR KONSTANTINOVICH

He was born on 05.12.1934 in the village of Kutol (Kiarakian settlement) of the Ochamchira district of Abkhazia.
He is an Abkhaz writer, prose writer and playwright. He wrote in Abkhazian.
He studied at the Kyarakyan four-class primary school, but in his first year of study the Great Patriotic War broke out. After the war, he was forced to continue his studies in Georgian, as Abkhazian schools were closed down. He attended Kiarakian School and completed his studies at Kutol Eight Year School. He began writing in the early 50s when he was a student at Coutola School. His first story was published in 1955. In 1957 he graduated from the Sukhumi Pedagogical School.
From 1957 to 1962 he studied at the Sukhumi State Pedagogical Institute named after A. M. Gorky at the Faculty of Philology.
From 1962 he worked as a teacher in Sukhumi 4th secondary school.
From 1962-1967 he worked in the editorial office of the newspaper «Apsny Kapsh» («Red Abkhazia») as a literary employee, correspondent from 1967 to 1972, deputy executive secretary from 1972 to 1976, head of the department of Soviet construction, administrative bodies and commodity turnover from 1976 to 1978.
He was then editor from 1978 to 1979, senior editor from 1979 to 1997 and for some time editor-in-chief of «Alashara» Publishing House.
His works were published in the magazines «Alashara» («Light»), «Amtsabz» («Flame»), newspapers «Apsny Kapsh», «Sovetskaya Abkhazia», «Etsvadzhaa» («Constellation»), in collective collections, and others. He is the author of more than 20 books of prose and journalism.
He is an Honoured Worker of Culture of the Abkhazian ASSR since 1990, a member of the Union of Writers of Abkhazia since 1997 and the Union of Journalists of Russia, a holder of the Order «Akhidz-Apsha» («Honour and Glory») III degree of the Republic of Abkhazia.
He died on 24.12.2021.
