«Estery Basaria did not have time for much, but managed to leave many books, left her mark in literature. The sky was created for birds, and the creator for the younger generation, for the sake of their future. Those who knew Estery will hear her voice, her inimitable laughter for a long time to come,» said Ekaterina Bebia, Doctor of Philological Sciences, journalist.
Estery Basaria's first publication appeared in the «Apsny Kapsh» newspaper when she was still at school. The publication of the story «Balagur» in the magazine «Youth» in 1969 is considered to be the beginning of the creative path of the writer.
«For me, the novel closest to my heart is Eteri Basaria's «The View Over the Gates Overlooking the Meadow». She was very open and profound in all of her writings. Eteri Basaria is also known as a talented literary scholar. Her articles on the works of Iuya Kogonia, Daur Zantaria, Vitaly Amarshan have taken a worthy place in the national literary studies, but, of course, she was first of all a writer,» said art historian Svetlana Korsaja.
«Despite the fact that Eteri Basaria did not live in Abkhazia for many years, she was soulfully attached to her homeland,» noted poet Alkhas Chkhamalia.
«She told me about her attachment to her homeland when we met in Crimea. Of course, this was reflected in her work, for example, the novel «A Look Over the Gate Going to the Meadow» tells about the life of an Abkhazian woman, all the characters are Abkhazian. She wrote in Russian, but, you could say, «in Abkhazian»,» Alkhas Chkhamalia said.
