Born on 02 January 1936 in Tkuarchal, Abkhazian ASSR, Abkhazian Caucasian folklorist, epic scholar, literary critic, expert on the Nart epic, Abkhazian fiction. candidate of philological sciences (1966).
Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR (1978) and the Union of Writers of Abkhazia.
Graduated from Sukhumi secondary school No. 2 in 1955. He entered the philological faculty of the A.M. Gorky Sukhumi State Pedagogical Institute.
He worked as a teacher of Abkhazian literature at the Abkhazian Language and Literature Department of the Sukhumi State Pedagogical Institute in 1960-1962.
In 1966 he defended his PhD thesis on the poetics of the Abkhazian Nart epic at the Gorky Institute of World Literature of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1967, he worked as head of the editorial department of the newspaper Apsny Kapsh (Red Abkhazia), from the same year he worked as a researcher, then senior researcher at the D. I. Gulia Institute of Language, Literature and History of Abkhazia. D. I. Gulia. Anshba's main field of scientific activity was the problems of Abkhazian folklore and literature, to which he devoted more than 80 works (including a number of monographic studies and collections of articles, essays and materials). He made a significant contribution to the science of folklore.
The Caucasian Nartiad occupies a special place in his work. His three books are devoted to the study of the ethics and style of the Nart epic of the Abkhaz, the relationship between folklore and reality. Artur Artemovich Anshba made a significant contribution to the collection of Abkhaz folklore materials from the 1960s to the 1980s.
He has recorded about 1000 texts, the bulk of which have only recently been published.
His literary and literary-critical articles are devoted to the life and work of D. I. Gulia, S. Y. Chanba, M. A. Lakrba, D. H. Darsalia, B. V. Shinkuba, I. K. Tarba, A. K. Jenia, T. S. Ajba, S. H. Tarkila, N. T. Kvitsinia and others, textology of literature, lyrics, short stories, fiction translation, history of Abkhazian literature. He was the first in Abkhazian literary studies to address the problem of textology of national literature.
He was one of the authors of "Essays on the History of Abkhazian Literature" (Sukhumi, 1974) and "History of Abkhazian Literature" (Sukhumi, 1986; in Abkhazian).
Died on 19 December 1985, Sukhum.
