
AGRBA VLADIMIR BABAKHOVICH

Born on 11 July 1933 in the village of Kutol, Ochamchira district, Abkhazian ASSR
Literary scholar, critic, folklorist, public figure.
In 1959 he graduated from the philological faculty of the A.M. Gorky Sukhumi State Pedagogical Institute (now Abkhaz State University), and in 1965 he completed postgraduate studies at the A.M. Gorky Institute of World Literature of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1967, he defended his PhD thesis on ‘Abkhazian poetry and oral folk art’ at the Institute.
He studied the role of folklore in the formation and development of Abkhazian literature; he wrote a number of articles and essays on the study of folklore in the works of the brightest representatives of Abkhazian literature: D. Gulia, S. Chanba, M. Lakrba, B. Shinkuba and others.
